Advent
Christmas is one of the most hectic times of the year. There are presents to buy, goodies to prepare, parties to go to, and houses decorate. How can we prepare to celebrate a season dedicated to the birth of Jesus without forgetting the One the season is about? One way started by Christians many years ago was an event called Advent. It begins four Sundays before Christmas by using candles to remind us of the Christmas story. Over four Sundays, the stories of the prophets, the angels, the shepherds, and the wise men are brought to life as their candle is lit. Then, on Christmas eve, the final candle is lit – the Christ candle – as we thank God for the greatest gift we’ve ever been given.
