Welcome!

I’m glad you decided to check out Calvary’s Worship Choir. We strive to be a fun group that is primarily interested in enhancing the worship experience that takes place Sunday mornings here at Calvary. I hope I can answer a few of your questions, and help you make a more informed decision as to whether this group is for you!

When does the Worship Choir rehearse/sing?
Our schedule generally runs from the end of August until the end of May. We sing about every other week in the first and second main services. In addition, we support the Christmas and Easter programs here with additional music. We rehearse on Wednesday nights in room 206, from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m.

Do I have to be able to read music?
No. The most important attribute you need is a smile on your face, and a desire to touch both God’s heart and people’s lives. If you can sing ‘Happy Birthday’ without emptying a room, you’re welcome here with us!

Do you always sing from memory?
Most of the time, we try not to use music, as it tends to put a ‘barrier’ between us and the congregation. We project the words to our songs on the back wall, so you can use them as a reference.

I’m committed as a Sunday School teacher/helper. Can I still sing?
The last thing we want to do is help someone ‘burn out’ in ministry. Generally, if God has called you to another area of service at Calvary, we honor that, and ask that you pour your heart into that ministry. Having said that, we do have people who are able to do both, without hurting their personal and/or family lives. If, for example, you have a commitment in the second service, we still certainly welcome you to join us for the first service.

Is there anything I can do besides sing?
Sure. Are you gifted in organizing social events? Come talk to me! Would you like to help keep up with those who aren’t able to make a Wednesday rehearsal? We need a few people to help keep in contact with the rest of our choir. There are a variety of ways in which you can help. Talk with either JoAnn McAllister (our choir librarian) or myself.
